The Ghana Education Service (GES) has addressed concerns raised by newly posted teachers regarding delays in staff ID issuance and salary payments.
In a press release dated June 24, 2025, the GES Management acknowledged receipt of a petition from the teachers and outlined steps taken to resolve the issues.
According to the GES, 12,807 graduates were recruited from Colleges of Education in 2024, with 9,950 having received staff IDs and paid as of December 2024.
However, 2,113 teachers had staff IDs but couldn’t be paid due to expired financial clearance, while 582 others didn’t receive IDs due to documentation delays.
The GES Management has undertaken a nationwide staff validation exercise and set up a technical committee to ensure prompt communication and coordination. Letters have also been sent to the Ministry of Finance requesting an extension of the expired financial clearance.
“We are actively working to resolve recruitment backlogs and prevent recurrence by addressing systemic issues in the recruitment process,” the GES stated.
The Service appealed for coordinated representation from the teachers to streamline the engagement process, noting that “every picketing exercise often involves a different set of individuals.”
GES assured affected teachers that significant progress has been made and every effort is being made to rectify the situation.
“We appreciate the frustrations of the affected teachers… Management remains committed to transparency, accountability, and collaboration in resolving this matter,” said Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of GES.
The affected teachers had staged a protest at the GES headquarters on June 23, 2025, demanding payment of salary arrears and issuance of staff IDs.
Some teachers had reportedly not been paid for up to 10 months, prompting frustration and financial strain.
