GES condemns assault on Kade SHTS teacher, assures punitive action

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has strongly condemned the assault on a teacher of Kade Senior High Technical School, captured in a video that has gone viral on social media, describing the act as unlawful and unacceptable.

In a statement issued on December 10, 2025, GES said its attention was drawn to “a video circulating widely on social media which captures an unfortunate assault on Mr. Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School, by some past students of the school.”

According to the Service, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on October 5, 2025, allegedly after the former students became aggrieved with the teacher for being “strict on them during the invigilation of the Christian Religious Studies WASSCE 2025 paper.”

The GES revealed that the matter was neither reported to the school authorities nor to its management at the time of the incident.

“The issue was not reported to the school authority nor GES Management until the video recording of the assault circulated on social media,” the statement noted.

It added that management has since taken over the case, with investigations currently underway.

Condemning the act, GES stated that it “condemns the assault in the strongest terms as such behaviour is unacceptable, unlawful, and a direct affront to the dignity of the teaching profession.”

The Service further assured that the perpetrators will face the full consequences of their actions.

“The students shall face the appropriate sanctions provided by law and GES regulations to ensure justice is duly served,” it said.

GES also used the opportunity to reassure teachers across the country of its backing.

“Management assures all teachers nationwide of our full support in instilling discipline and ensuring examination integrity,” the statement added.

It urged students to conduct themselves responsibly, calling on them “to uphold discipline and respect authority.”
