The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) says the unauthorised charging of fees of any forms or under any names from parents or students by some schools and authorities is unlawful and subjective to exploitation.

In a statement released by GES, some schools have resorted to exploiting parents and students by charging unauthorised school fees which is not sanctioned by the Ghana Education Service.

“Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has not authorised or sanctioned any school to charge fees under any name of any form from parents or students”, the statement has noted.

The management of GES has issued a warning to the general public to take note and avoid being victimize of such schemes.

“The public is therefore urged to disregard any unsubstantiated claims being circulated by individuals seeking to misinform”, management has stated.

Therefore, any school found to be charging money under the guise of feeding fees, as alleged, is acting unlawfully and without the approval of management.

The statement said government does not only commit to maintaining the Free SHS policy, but to improve it.

“Any attempt to undermine this policy—whether through the spread of false information or through clandestinely imposing fees on students—will be treated as an act contrary to national interest”, management reiterated.

The government has called on all stakeholders to submit a complaint of attempted exploitation by any school or authority to the Management team of the Ghana Education Service for immediate probing.

“Individual- student or parent- who is charged feeding fees by any school is advised to report the matter to the Management of the Ghana Education Service for investigation and action”, the statement indicated.
