The Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended its condolences to the families of the nine pupils who lost their lives after drowning in a river in Accra.

The pupils numbering about twelve, according to reports, met the unfortunate accident when they were returning from school at around 5 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.

Residents say the boat they were traveling with capsized around Faana in the Weija Gbawe municipality in Accra. Eyewitnesses alleged that the boat which was carrying the children capsized as a result of the spillage of the Weija Dam.

As a result, nine of them comprising seven girls and two boys lost their lives in the process.

The GES further revealed that another similar incident has happened in the Krachi West Municipality which involved a 29-year-old teacher. Mr. Sampson Adu also met his untimely death when the boat he was traveling with capsized.
