GES mourns two BECE candidates killed in road accident

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it is in deep mourning after two Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates died in a road traffic accident in the Upper West Region.

The students, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, both from Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School, were travelling to Wa on Sunday 3rd May when the accident occurred. They were on their way to join other candidates ahead of the start of the examination.

Preliminary reports suggest the crash happened while they were en route, though further details are still being gathered.

In a statement, GES described the deaths as a devastating loss, saying the two boys had promising futures that have been cut short under tragic circumstances.

The service extended condolences to the families of the deceased, their school, classmates and the wider education community, and said it would work with relevant authorities to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

GES also said it would look at measures to help prevent similar tragedies in future.

The service ended its statement with a message of sympathy, saying it hoped the souls of the two students would rest in peace.
