The Ghana Education Service (GES) has addressed a viral video circulating on social media that alleges poor feeding conditions at Savelugu Senior High School.
In a statement, the GES said it has “sighted a video circulating on social media about an alleged food situation at Savelugu Senior High School.”
The Service emphasised that it takes the welfare of students seriously and views any form of mismanagement in the feeding programme as a grave offence.
“Management takes the quality of student feeding very seriously,” the statement said, adding that mismanagement “is a serious offence, as it compromises the government’s commitment to enhancing the feeding programme.”
The GES also noted that the feeding programme has generally improved nationwide, attributing the progress to the collaboration between the Buffer Stock and school heads.
“The feeding of students has generally received a remarkable facelift, with an efficient collaboration between Buffer Stock and the School Heads,” the statement noted.
On the Savelugu SHS case, the Service described the incident as an isolated one and assured the public that it does not reflect the overall feeding status across the country.
“The incident at Savelugu Senior High School is an isolated case and does not reflect the overall feeding status nationwide,” the statement said, adding that investigations into the matter have already begun.
To ensure quality feeding in schools, the GES said its monitoring team will intensify unannounced visits to schools.
“The GES Monitoring Team will intensify its unannounced monitoring visits to schools,” the statement added.
The GES also urged stakeholders, especially school heads, to report any challenges promptly for quick intervention.
“Stakeholders, and School Heads especially, are urged to promptly report any peculiar challenges they encounter to Management for timely intervention,” the statement said.
