GFA charges ten Nsoatreman and Asante Kotoko players for unsporting behavior in violent Ghana Premier League clash

The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has banned 10 footballers for their involvement in the violent altercations during the Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kronmansah Park.

The match, originally expected to be a competitive spectacle, descended into chaos as players and officials from both teams clashed on the field, and violence spilled into the stands. Tragically, Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter known as “Pooley,” was fatally stabbed by unknown assailants amidst the unrest.

As a result of the brawl, the GFA has suspended six players from Nsoatreman FC and four from Asante Kotoko. The players are:

1. Stephen Diyou (Nsoatreman FC)
2. Mohammed Camara (Asante Kotoko)
3. Justice Blay (Asante Kotoko)
4. Frank Dongballe (Nsoatreman FC)
5. Abdul Rahaman Mohammed (Nsoatreman FC)
6. Walid Neymar Fuseini (Nsoatreman FC)
7. Gilbani O’Neil Ndongani Samba (Asante Kotoko)
8. Andrews Ntim Manu (Asante Kotoko)
9. Mohammed Issaka (Nsoatreman FC)
10. Eric Osei Bonsu (Nsoatreman FC)

The players have been charged with violating Section 12(10) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, for unsporting conduct during the match. They have until February 5, 2025, to respond to the charges.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals, including former Minister Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph, in connection with the violence.

A search of one suspect’s residence uncovered bloodstained clothing and a pistol with ammunition. The suspects are cooperating with authorities, and the Inspector-General of Police has promised a thorough investigation, with a special CID team supporting the Bono Regional Police.

In response to the events, the GFA has indefinitely suspended Nana Kronmansah Park from hosting matches and will convene an emergency meeting with stakeholders to address safety concerns and prevent future incidents.
