GFA President Kurt Okraku expresses gratitude after CAF Executive Committee election victory, pledges to promote African football

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has expressed his deep gratitude and humility following his election to the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Kurt Okraku, who was elected uncontested, joins the 24-member committee of CAF, the continent’s governing football body, where he will serve a four-year term from 2025 to 2029.

This election strengthens Ghana’s voice in shaping the future of African football and is seen as an opportunity to further the country’s interests while promoting the development of the sport across the continent.

In a Facebook post, Okraku thanked President John Dramani Mahama, the Government, and Minister of Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, for their unwavering support.

He also acknowledged the contributions of his colleagues on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, the staff of the Association, and the members of WAFU and CAF.

The GFA president committed to working diligently to promote African football, expressing his loyalty to CAF and FIFA, and pledging to contribute to the continued development of the game across Africa.

Fellow Countrymen and Women,,

I am deeply humbled and honoured to have been elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

I am overwhelmed with gratitude and humility as I extend my sincerest appreciation to His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama and his Government for the unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout this journey.

I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, for his immense support which has been crucial to my election success.

I further extend my deepest gratitude to my hard working colleagues on the Executive Council of the Football Association for their prayers and support as I navigate this new path.

I would also like to express my sincerest thanks to the staff of the Ghana Football Association for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to football in the country. This accomplishment is as much yours as it is mine.

To the members of the Executive Committee of WAFU, Presidents of WAFU B, and all members of WAFU and CAF, I thank you for your trust and confidence in me. I look forward to working closely with each of you to develop and promote African football.

Finally, to my family, and the entire football fraternity in Ghana, and across Africa—thank you for your continued support, belief, and love for the game. I am humbled to be given the chance to serve on the highest decision- making body of the continent’s governing body and commits my loyalty to the leadership of CAF and FIFA.

I am honoured to serve Ghana, WAFU, and CAF, and I pledge to work tirelessly to promote the development of African football, contribute meaningfully to the development of the game across the continent.
