The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has announced that the proposed increment in the feeding grant per beneficiary pupil to GH¢1.50 will take effect from the second term of the 2023/2024 academic year.
In a press statement signed by Siiba Alfa, the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) Head of Public Relations, said the increment is part of the 2024 Budget and Financial Statement of the Government.
“All caterers under the Programme in all the 16 regions should be rest assured that the National Secretariat is working assiduously to ensure a timely release of funds by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to clear outstanding arrears using the new approved rate in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
The GSFP clarified that the recent payment for the first term arrears was based on a grant of GH¢1.20, as captured under the 2023 budget, and covered 58 cooking days.
“The Government acknowledges the challenges faced by our caterers, and we can confirm that each caterer would receive GH¢1.50 per pupil per day in the next payment,” the statement assured.
Ghana School Feeding urged caterers to exercise patience as they finalize the process for the second term payment, and directed those with issues of underpayment or no payment to report to their Regional Coordinators for prompt redress.
“We sincerely appreciate your ongoing cooperation and understanding despite the delays,” the statement said.
The Ghana School Feeding Programme is a Ghana-UN Sustainable Development Goals Programme aimed at reducing hunger and extreme poverty.
