Ghana and Saudi Arabia Forge Landmark 2026 Hajj Agreement

In a significant milestone for Ghanaian Muslims, the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, paving the way for Ghana’s active participation in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.

The historic agreement was signed in Jeddah last Sunday by Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim, Chairman of PAOG, on behalf of the Government of Ghana. The signing not only affirms Ghana’s readiness for the sacred journey but also reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare and spiritual experience of its pilgrims.

During the ceremony, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah commended Ghana’s past performance, highlighted areas for improvement, and explored strategies to ensure a seamless pilgrimage experience that upholds the sanctity of this sacred journey.

The MoU lays out a comprehensive operational framework for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 Hajj, including:

  • Pilgrim slot allocations
  • Service contracts
  • Accommodation and transportation arrangements
  • Camp bookings, visa procedures, welfare, and health standards

Both parties also agreed on strict timelines for operational readiness, with camp, transport, and accommodation arrangements to be efficiently managed through the Musuk Masar digital platform.

The agreement officially cements Ghana’s place in the 2026 Hajj, ensuring clear expectations for service quality, health compliance, and timely coordination.

Addressing Ghanaian Muslims and Hajj stakeholders, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Tanko Ibrahim extended warm greetings and urged prospective pilgrims to remit their Hajj fare of GHS 60,000 promptly to facilitate smooth planning and coordination for a spiritually fulfilling journey.

This landmark agreement underscores Ghana’s dedication to providing world-class pilgrimage experiences and further strengthens the country’s enduring ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
