Ghana and Japan urge firms to invest as business talks open in Accra

Ghana and Japan are stepping up efforts to attract new investments as leaders from both countries called on businesses to work more closely to create jobs and support long term economic growth.

The renewed commitment came at a Business to Business matching reception held in Accra on Thursday, January 15, 2026, where Ghanaian companies met members of a Japanese mission to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore practical areas for cooperation.

The discussions focused on sectors seen as key drivers of growth, including finance and capital, infrastructure, manufacturing and technology, commercial and professional services, as well as public, multilateral, and NGO related initiatives.

Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr Kunimitsu Ayano, and Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Trade and Agribusiness, Sampson Ahi, both urged companies from the two countries to look beyond traditional partnerships and take advantage of emerging opportunities.

They said stronger private sector collaboration would not only deepen economic ties but also help create decent jobs, build wealth, and support sustainable development in Ghana and Japan.

Participants described the reception as a timely platform that brought businesses face to face, opening the door for new partnerships and practical investments that could benefit both economies in the years ahead.
