Today, Ghana is celebrating its hardworking farmers, fishers, and agribusiness players as part of the 41st National Farmers’ Day, with the festivities taking place in the Volta Region under the theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”
The 41st edition of the celebration opened on Monday, December 1, at the Ho Sports Stadium with the launch of the 2025 National Agricultural Fair
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Volta Regional Minister James Gunu emphasized the government’s commitment to making agriculture the backbone of the country’s economic growth.
“Farmers, fishers, processors, and everyone in the value chain are the backbone of our economy,” he said, highlighting that Ghana’s future is closely tied to their success.
The Volta Region has emerged as a leader in national food production, excelling in rice, cassava, vegetables, aquaculture, and animal husbandry. Its success is central to the Volta Economic Corridor initiative, a bold project aimed at modernizing agriculture, improving processing, boosting logistics, and increasing exports.
The celebration also shines a spotlight on fisheries and aquaculture, which provide nearly 60% of animal protein in Ghana.
The event will draw farmers, government officials, students, and stakeholders across the agricultural value chain, all gathering to celebrate agriculture’s crucial role in Ghana’s development and economic revival.
