Ghana is leading the charge for gender equality in Africa, with a strong commitment to empowering women and girls.

Speaking at the AU Summit, President John Dramani Mahama said Ghana’s representative emphasized that advancing gender parity is a shared responsibility, crucial for Africa’s development and economic growth.
He highlighted Ghana’s achievements, including:
- Allocating $40 million to the Women’s Development Bank
- Achieving gender parity in school enrollment
- Strengthening institutions for women’s support
- Enacting the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act with binding targets

The call to action: adopt gender-responsive budgeting, implement the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and accelerate financial inclusion for women and youth.
The private sector is urged to align financing with African priorities and treat gender equality as a smart investment.

Ghana’s efforts aim to move gender equality from the margins to the center of budgets, institutions, and leadership.
