Ghana–China relations received a renewed boost as Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with China, describing it as a relationship built on trust, shared growth, and human connection.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the inauguration of the newly elected 2026 executives of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Mr. Debrah delivered a message of continued cooperation and goodwill between the two communities.

He noted that the ties between Ghana and China go far beyond diplomacy and trade, stressing that the relationship has grown into one rooted in friendship and mutual support.

“Gatherings like this remind us that the relationship between Ghana and China is not just about business or diplomacy, but also about people, friendship, and shared progress,” he said.

Mr. Debrah also acknowledged the contribution of the Chinese community in Ghana’s development journey, highlighting their role in business, infrastructure, and job creation over the years.
He expressed gratitude to the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies for its consistent efforts in strengthening bilateral relations.

“Over the years, your association has contributed meaningfully to Ghana’s growth, and we deeply appreciate the role you continue to play in strengthening the ties between our two countries,” he added.
Congratulating the newly elected leadership, he encouraged them to deepen collaboration and continue building opportunities that benefit both nations.

“To the incoming leadership, congratulations on taking up this important responsibility. I encourage you to continue building bridges, creating opportunities, and deepening the spirit of partnership that has brought our communities so close together.”
Touching on broader economic cooperation, Mr. Debrah praised China’s trade policies toward Africa, particularly tariff-free access for African exports into Chinese markets, describing it as a strong signal of solidarity.
“When we look at the policies of the Chinese government — allowing African countries tariff-free access to export products into China — it clearly shows how much China values and supports Africa,” he noted.
He further reaffirmed the Mahama administration’s industrialisation agenda, stressing the need for Ghana to move beyond raw exports and focus on value addition and manufacturing.
President Mahama’s vision, he said, is to position Ghana as “the industrial home of West Africa.”
The event also saw the re-election of businessman Mr. Tang Hong as President of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, reinforcing continuity in leadership within the Chinese community in Ghana.
