The Energy Commission of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Global South Utilities, an investment company based in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, to deepen cooperation in the energy sector and support Ghana’s transition to sustainable energy.
The agreement was signed in Accra by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Adwoa Serwaa Bondzie, and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Global South Utilities, Ali Al Shimmari. The signing followed approval by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor.
The ceremony was witnessed by the United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Ghana, Dr Abdulla Almandoos, and took place during a high level visit to the Presidency by a UAE delegation led by Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the country’s Minister of State.
Under the agreement, the Energy Commission and Global South Utilities will explore opportunities for technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and investment to help advance Ghana’s energy transition.
Ms Bondzie said the partnership would help identify practical areas of cooperation that would deliver meaningful benefits to Ghana’s energy sector.
Mr Al Shimmari reaffirmed Global South Utilities’ commitment to supporting the Commission’s efforts to promote energy transition while contributing to Ghana’s long term economic growth.
Both organisations expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen the resilience of Ghana’s energy infrastructure and improve access to sustainable, reliable and affordable energy for communities across the country and the wider region.
