Ghana Gas, Ecobank, Absa, OmniBSIC and Zijin inject cash into Black Stars World Cup Fund

With less than a month to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, several companies have stepped up financial support for the Black Stars, contributing millions of Ghana cedis towards the team’s preparations for the tournament.

Ghana Gas Limited led the latest round of donations after redeeming a pledge of GH¢5 million to support the national team ahead of next month’s competition.

Other organisations that made contributions included Ecobank Ghana Limited with GH¢3 million, Zijin Golden Ridge Limited with GH¢1.13 million and Absa Bank Ghana with GH¢1 million.

OmniBSIC Bank also made a symbolic presentation of GH¢250,000.

The donations were received at the Ministry of Finance in Accra by Deputy Finance Minister and Chairman of the Black Stars World Cup Fundraising Committee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem.

Speaking at the event, Mr Ampem thanked the companies for what he described as their commitment and support for the national team. He urged other organisations and individuals who had made pledges to honour them before the end of the month, adding that the fundraising drive remained open to further contributions.

The latest donations form part of a wider campaign to raise funds for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The fundraising initiative was launched in March by John Dramani Mahama with a target of raising $30 million from corporate institutions and the public.

The Ministry of Finance says pledges and donations from companies and individuals will continue to be received every Thursday as preparations for the tournament gather pace.
