Ghana is 72nd most corrupt country in the world – Report

Ghana has been ranked the 72nd in the Corruption Perceptions Index for 2022. (CPI)

It is the third time in a row that Ghana has held the same position among the 180 nations examined.

The report was released on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Ghana had a score of 43 out of 100 in the evaluations published by Transparency International (TI).

This indicates that over the last three years, Ghana has not improved its CPI score of 43.

The CPI Score, which measures opinions of the level of corruption, ranges from 100 (very clean) to 0. (highly corrupt).

A statement available to Metro TV stated that corruption is a major factor to the country’s current economic troubles as evinced by various recent reports, emphasising the necessity to address the problem.

Delia Ferreira Rubio, Chairperson of Transparency International, identified corruption as a phenomena that “has made our planet a more hazardous place.”

In general, Denmark (90) leads the ranking this year, with Finland and New Zealand close behind, both with 87.

Somalia (12), Syria (13), and South Sudan are the worst performers (13).

They are all embroiled in long-running battles. Years of violence and war have depleted resources and made them vulnerable to corruption, rendering governments practically incapable of advancement.
