Ghana Medical Association condemns dismissal of TTH CEO

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has condemned the treatment of doctors at the Emergency unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) during a visit by the Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North.

The GMA also expressed concern over the subsequent dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Hospital, citing an affront to due process and abuse of power.

“The manner in which the dismissal was carried out is an affront to due process and abuse of power by the Hon. Minister of Health.”

The Association demands an unqualified apology from the Health Minister and the MP for the unwarranted attack on staff involved.

The GMA raised serious concerns about the breach of patient confidentiality and medico-legal risks associated with the media audit of the patient’s death.

“The ill-informed media audit of the death of the patient raises serious issues of breach of patient confidentiality, exposes the facility to medico-legal risks, and prejudges the issue even before the matter is duly investigated,” the statement added.

The GMA calls on the hospital to ensure due process is followed and provide necessary psychological support to affected staff.

“We also call on the management of the facility to ensure the safety of the staff involved and provide the necessary psychological support to them,” the statement emphasized.
