Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director General of Sports in Ghana, highlighted a pressing issue in the nation’s sports sector: the lack of discipline in stadium maintenance.
According to Ankrah, the state of Ghana’s sports facilities reflects broader challenges in organizational discipline and accountability. “As a nation, we lack discipline when it comes to stadium maintenance,” he said, emphasizing the urgent need for structured upkeep plans and responsible management.
In a candid interview with Sports Tiger on Original TV,Ankrah noted that well-maintained stadiums are not only crucial for athletes’ performance but also for enhancing fan experience and promoting Ghana as a hub for international sports events. Poor facility maintenance, he warned, could undermine the country’s potential to host major sporting tournaments.
The Director General also called on government agencies, sports authorities, and the public to collaborate in ensuring that stadiums are cared for year-round, not just during major events.
He stressed that discipline in stadium management is a reflection of national pride and commitment to sports development.
