Ghana Athletics has announced a formidable squad to represent the nation at the upcoming World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, next month.
The five-athlete team will be spearheaded by seasoned sprinters Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, along with Joseph Paul Amoah, Isaac Botsio, and Ibrahim Fuseini.
This prestigious relay competition, set to take place in May 2026, is not just a major international event but also serves as a vital qualifier for the 2027 World Athletics Championships and the 2026 World Ultimate Championships. The event is expected to attract over 700 athletes from nearly 40 countries, making it a key stage for nations to showcase their relay strength.
For Ghana, the World Relays present an opportunity to build on their recent successes in the sport. In the previous edition of the World Championships, the men’s relay team set a new national record and came agonizingly close to a podium finish, securing a remarkable fourth place.
The upcoming event will be another chance for Ghana to reinforce its position as a strong contender on the global stage, especially in relay events. With the leadership of Azamati, Saminu, and Amoah — all experienced athletes with international acclaim — Ghana’s relay hopes are high.
