Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Sampson Ahi, has assured Ghanaian exporters that the government is actively addressing the effects of the recently imposed US tariffs.
In an interview with Kwesi Afriyie on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV, Tuesday, April 8, Ahi referenced a statement from the White House indicating that the US President is open to negotiations, with 44 countries already requesting engagement.
“We are exploring the opportunity provided by this window to see if we can secure an exemption from the tariffs,” Ahi said, underscoring the government’s commitment to finding a solution.
He reassured the business community, particularly those exporting to the US, that the government is taking the matter seriously and is actively working to alleviate the challenges posed by the new tariffs.
Ahi’s comments reflect Ghana’s diplomatic efforts to secure exemptions and protect its exporters from the economic burden of these trade measures.
“We want to assure the business community, especially exporters to the US market, that the government is fully committed to addressing the issue and is working diligently to secure a positive outcome for Ghanaian businesses,” he concluded.
