Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, has met with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on several key areas, including the construction of a second gas processing plant, major infrastructure projects, and debt restructuring.
According to Dr. Forson, the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, which was built with China’s support during his tenure as Deputy Minister, has been a success, and it’s now time to build a second one.
“With China’s support, we built the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant during my time as Deputy Minister. It’s now time to build a second gas processing plant,” he stated.
The Finance Minister also discussed major infrastructure projects announced by the President, including the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
These projects are being considered ahead of the Mid-Year Budget Review, and Dr. Forson emphasized the need for support from partners like China.
Dr. Forson referenced the Chinese saying, “If you want to get rich, build roads first,” highlighting the importance of investing in infrastructure development.
He also noted that most Chinese-funded projects in Ghana are near completion, and expressed hope that new ones will commence soon.
Furthermore, Dr. Forson appealed for China’s support to complete Ghana’s debt restructuring.
The Chinese Ambassador welcomed the engagement and confirmed China’s readiness to assist.
He also indicated that the bilateral agreement and development partnership are ready to be signed.
