Ghana Takes Delivery Of First Consignment Of Childhood Vaccines After Months Of Shortage

This delivery comes after months of acute shortage of child immunization vaccines across the country which posed great danger to children born within the period.

Minister for Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu in an address to parliament on the shortage noted that about $6.4 million has so far been paid to the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for the delivery of the said vaccines.

After several weeks of agitation, the Ministry of Information in a press statement on Saturday, March 11, 2023, announced that the first consignment of the vaccines have arrived in the country.

The vaccines that have arrived, the Ministry noted include measles vaccines, BCG vaccines, and Oral Polio Vaccines.

The Ministry further stated that different consignments of the vaccines are expected to arrive in the country from multiple sources adding that distribution is underway to the various health facilities across all regions.

“More vaccines expected in Ghana in the coming weeks from multiple sources,” the Information Ministry added.
