The Ghanaian government has announced the immediate evacuation of its citizens from Iran due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed in a social media post that the decision was made to protect Ghanaian lives.
“We have decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict,” Ablakwa stated in a Facebook post.
“To guarantee the safety of our embassy staff, Ghana’s embassy in Tehran has been closed with immediate effect.”
The evacuation effort, which is being carried out through land borders, covers all Ghanaian nationals in Iran, including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.
Ablakwa assured that the government is committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens.
“No effort would be spared in protecting Ghanaian lives and keeping all Ghanaians out of harm’s way.”
He disclosed that the Ghanaian government is also closely monitoring developments in Israel and has instructed embassy operations in Tel Aviv to be reduced to the bare minimum.
All Ghanaians in Israel have been advised to maintain close communication with the consular department.
Ablakwa reiterated Ghana’s call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, urging both parties to pursue diplomatic options and end hostilities.
“The Government of Ghana reiterates its demand on both parties to pursue diplomatic options and end hostilities,” he emphasized.
