Ghana tops Group A after convincing 2-0 win over Benin

The Ghana National Under-17 team, the Black Starlets, maintained their top spot in Group A after a convincing 2-0 lashing of Benin in their last group game at the ongoing WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship.

The free scoring Black Starlets made it 7 goals in two games adding to their previous 5-1 win over Ivory Coast in the opening fixture.

Two first half goals from Mark Kagawa and Theophilus Ayamga sent Benin packing after failing to win a game at the tournament.

Ghana topped the group with 6 points, scoring 7 goals and conceding just one in the process.

The win means Ghana will face the 2nd-palced side in Group B in the semi-finals of the WAFU Championship.

In Group B, Burkina Faso are currently on top of the table with 4 points after two games, followed by Nigeria on same points, but separated by goal difference.

Niger, who have 3 points from two games, will come up against Burkina Faso on Wednesday, same time as Nigeria take on whipping boys Togo, who have lost both their matches at the ongoing tournament.

The results from the final matches in Group B will determine who Ghana faces next in the semi-finals.

The Black Starlets are chasing a dream of staging a return to the Under-17 AFCON after their last outing in Gabon in 2017.
