The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts sector, unveiling new strategies and calling for stronger collaboration to position the country as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Chief of Staff Dr Julius Debrah urged stakeholders across the tourism value chain to work together, embrace innovation and tell Ghana’s story more effectively to attract visitors and investment.
He said stronger partnerships and compelling storytelling would be essential in promoting Ghana as a preferred destination on the global tourism market while supporting economic growth and national development.
Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, outlined the Ministry’s “domestic first, global next” strategy, which seeks to strengthen the sector by first deepening local participation before expanding Ghana’s global tourism appeal.
She emphasized several flagship initiatives being implemented to support the sector, including the Ghana National Cultural Policy, the UNESCO Culture 2030 Indicators Programme, the Tourism Satellite Account, the Afro Gastro Festival, the Ghana Tourism Marketplace, the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform and the Akwaaba Night initiative.
One of the major announcements was Ghana’s successful bid to host the 70th Session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa in 2027. The event will coincide with the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations and is expected to provide a significant platform to showcase Ghana’s tourism, culture and investment opportunities.
Stakeholders at the event also renewed their commitment to working together to preserve Ghana’s cultural heritage, improve tourism experiences, attract greater investment and strengthen the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading tourism and cultural destinations.
