A Ghanaian-Chinese investor, Robert Tang Wei, has dismissed claims that he has encroached on land belonging to Panbros Industries Limited, a salt-producing company in Gbawe South West, Greater Accra.
Panbros had accused Mr Tang Wei of taking over its land and allegedly harassing its workers, but the investor insists the allegations are false.
In an interview with The Custodian, he said he lawfully acquired the 116.88-acre property from the Gbawe Kwartie Family and has official documentation to prove ownership, including a verified Land Title Certificate issued by the Lands Commission.
Documents sighted by The Custodian confirm that the land, registered under certificate number GA 76798, legally belongs to Mr Tang Wei. The dispute reportedly began when he started developing the site into a large industrial and residential project that includes a plastic factory and roofing sheet manufacturing plant.
Mr Tang Wei, who has lived in Ghana since 1998 and is now a naturalised citizen, said his goal is to contribute to local development by creating more jobs for Ghanaians. He noted that his existing investments in hotels, manufacturing, transportation, and retail already employ thousands of workers and contribute significant tax revenue.
“I am for peace because as an investor, I know my business can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace. That is why I sought the protection of the security agencies,” he said, explaining that he requested assistance only after facing resistance from Panbros workers on the site.
The Custodian has confirmed that before intervening, the National Security Secretariat verified ownership of the land. In a letter dated August 27, 2025, signed by Director of Investigations C/SUPOL Osman Alhassan, the Secretariat asked the Lands Commission to confirm the authenticity of Mr Tang Wei’s title.
The Lands Commission later responded on September 4, 2025, through Acting Director Surv. Angelina Awa, confirming that the original certificate submitted for verification was authentic.
The letter affirmed that the land, located at Gbawe South West, was registered in the name of Tang Wei under certificate number GA 76798.
Authorities are expected to comment further on the matter. Metro TV has indicated it will follow up with the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, and the Municipal Chief Executive to determine whether the land falls within a protected Ramsar site and whether the investor obtained the necessary development permits.
