After weeks on the road and thousands of kilometres of cycling, Ghanaian cyclist Emmanuel Adjei has finally arrived in Accra from Munich, Germany.
Speaking to Phil John Quartey on Sports Direct on Metro TV, Adjei described the experience as deeply emotional, saying he “feels surreal to finally touch down in Accra. This journey from Munich has tested every part of me physically, mentally, and emotionally.”
Crowds gathered along the road to welcome him, a moment Adjei said moved him to tears.
“The love and support I’ve received since I arrived is overwhelming. Seeing people cheering along the road as I entered Accra brought tears to my eyes.”
Adjei explained that the journey was far from easy. He faced heavy rains, scorching heat, and days of extreme fatigue.
“There were days I faced heavy rains, scorching sun, and moments of total exhaustion. But every time I thought of the children this journey is meant to support, I found strength to continue,” he said.
For him, cycling is more than a sport. It is a tool for change. “Cycling gave me discipline, focus, and a sense of purpose. I believe we can use sports to positively redirect the energy of our youth and I want to help create those opportunities for others,” he said.
Adjei is appealing for support to expand the impact of his work.
“I can’t do this alone. I’m calling on individuals, organisations, and corporate Ghana to come on board not just to support this cause, but to invest in the future of our children,” he urged.
He admitted that the trip also came with moments of fear and uncertainty.
“There were moments I was afraid — alone on the road, unsure of what lay ahead,” he said.
Adjei’s journey was aimed at raising awareness and support for underprivileged children. He says this is only the beginning of his efforts to use sports as a tool for youth development.
