A Ghanaian international student in Minnesota has been charged with allegedly using the credit card of a blind elderly client to pay his college tuition and make other purchases worth more than $11,000.
Henry Opoku Ware Jr, who was working as a personal care assistant in Duluth, faces charges of financial transaction card fraud and financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult’s property, according to the Duluth Police Department.
Court documents allege that Ware visited the client’s home in late July 2025. On the same day, he allegedly used the client’s credit card to make a payment to the College of St Scholastica, where he was a student.
Investigators say a total of $11,152.22 was charged to the credit card between July and August 2025.
The victim, her husband and their children told investigators they had not given Ware permission to use the card.
Financial records allegedly showed that the money was used to pay Ware’s college tuition as well as for other online purchases.
The College of St Scholastica later verified the transactions and returned the money to the client. Ware was subsequently expelled from the institution.
His former employer, Cornerstone Caregiving, also terminated his employment and cooperated fully with the police investigation.
Police records say Ware could not initially be located after the investigation began, with authorities describing him as having gone “missing in action”.
The charges were formally filed in mid October 2025.
The case remains under investigation by local authorities.
