Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Borniface Gambila, has assured that Ghanaians living in the country are safe following a lethal attack on Saturday that claimed around 200 lives and injured 143 others.
According to reports, Burkinabe security forces had received intelligence on a potential attack in Barsalogho, a village near Kaya in North Central Burkina Faso. Despite efforts to bolster defenses, the attackers launched a massacre on the villagers, killing young people and women. Military equipment, including an armored vehicle, was also seized.
While some Ghanaian travelers have lost their lives in Burkina Faso since jihadist activities began about a decade ago, Ambassador Gambila confirmed that no Ghanaians were affected in this latest incident.
