Graduates have been urged to abandon the outdated idea that a degree alone guarantees success and instead embrace constant learning, bold leadership, and innovation in a changing world of work.
Speaking at the 9th graduation ceremony of Perez University College on Saturday, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, challenged the Class of 2025 to see themselves as pioneers of Ghana’s digital future.
“The old formula of getting a degree, landing a job, and settling into a routine no longer holds. Work is being reinvented, and success will depend not just on what you know, but on your ability to adapt, relearn, and lead,” he said.
He painted a clear picture of how automation, artificial intelligence, and demographic changes are shaking up industries around the world.
To keep pace, he said, Ghana must nurture a generation of graduates who are ready to build businesses, employ others, and create new solutions instead of waiting for jobs to come to them.
Hon. George outlined the government’s plans to drive a 24-hour digital economy powered by smart infrastructure and data-driven services.
Initiatives like the Smart Data Exchange, nationwide digital platforms, the One Million Coders programme, and a National Startup Ecosystem are all aimed at helping young people thrive in this new reality.
He urged graduates not just to be skilled, but to be grounded in values and faith.
“Become the change. Become the leader of your generation,” he said, reminding them to keep God at the centre of their journey.
The Chancellor and Founder of Perez University College, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, also called on the government to extend financial support to private universities to help more young people access higher education.
The Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Abdullai, praised the university’s growth and pledged continued support for faith-based institutions that expand access to quality education.
