Ghana’s economy on downward trend, NDC will fix it – Mona Quartey

Former Deputy Finance Minister and NDC manifesto spokesperson on Finance and Economy, Mona Helen Quartey, has criticized the current Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, saying Ghana’s economic growth has been on a “downward trend” since the pair took office.

Madam Quartey, speaking on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV, attributed this economic decline to the what she called “non-performance” of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

She further stated that the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is disappointed at how the economy has been “broken” by the NPP regime, and promised that the NDC will work to rectify the situation when it returns to power.

Additionally, she said the NDC’s flagship 24-hour economy policy is not a quick fix solution to Ghana’s current economic quagmire, noting that the policy as being championed by the flagbearer of the NDC, has a long-term goal of not only solving the economic challenges but ensuring the policy help to narrow the unemployment gap in the country.

“Enough of the quick fixes, gold for oil, one this one that, all quick fixes that is not solving any long-term problems and we are not introducing quick fix policies. That is why the 24-hour economy because it has a long-term effect”
