Ghana’s tourism sector has continued to thrive despite global and regional economic pressures, recording a significant increase in international arrivals and notable growth in domestic tourism.
According to the Ghana Tourism Authority’s 2024 report launched on Thursday, July 3, the sector’s strong performance is attributed to targeted marketing campaigns, strategic partnerships, and enhanced digital platforms.
“The ‘See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana’ campaign continues to inspire travel, both locally and globally,” Maame Efua Houadjeto, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, said at the report’s launch.
Initiatives like the Black Star Experience and December in GH have also drawn global attention, reaffirming Ghana’s place as the Gateway to Africa.
The report highlights the impact of key events such as PANAFEST Emancipation, Kwahu Paragliding Festival, and Detty December, which have contributed to economic activity across regions and created employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians.
Maame Efua Houadjeto emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices,
“Our goal is not only to attract visitors but to ensure that tourism development benefits local communities and protects our natural and cultural heritage for generations to come.”
The Ghana Tourism Authority is committed to upskilling the workforce to meet international standards, with a focus on delivering memorable experiences.
“Let us work together to unlock new markets, strengthen infrastructure, and leverage digital innovation to deliver seamless experiences,” Maame Efua Houadjeto called on stakeholders.
