Ghana’s U-16 Girls’ team secured an emphatic 8-1 victory against Malta in their opening game of the UEFA International Development Tournament at the Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali-Attard.
Ghana started brightly and opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Seidatu Wahab, but Malta responded with an equalizer in the 31st minute from the penalty spot.
Two minutes later, Ghana regained the lead with a well-taken effort by Priscilla Mensah, heading into the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage.
The second half was entirely dominated by Ghana. Christiana Ashiaku, the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the recent WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup, added two more goals in the 47th and 52nd minutes to extend Ghana’s lead to 4-1.
Daniella Abass also found the back of the net in the 65th and 73rd minutes, bringing the score to 6-1. Gloria Adomako Ameaa and Seidatu Wahab then rounded off the scoreline with goals in the 82nd and 89th minutes, respectively, sealing a remarkable team performance.
Ghana will return to action on Thursday, March 6, against Ireland at the Centenary Stadium, Ta’ Qali-Attard.
