The Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS) has gone live at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, marking an important step in the effort to digitise healthcare delivery across the country.
The new system is expected to make healthcare more efficient by allowing hospitals and clinics to share patient information easily and securely.
At a meeting to welcome the National Rollout and Stabilization Team from the Ministry of Health, the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Abubakari Bawah Abdulai, said the rollout was a moment of pride for the facility.
He described GHIMS as “very dear to the Tamale Teaching Hospital” and pledged his personal commitment, along with the full cooperation of staff, to ensure its success.
Dr Bawah added that the move fits into management’s broader vision of using technology to improve service quality and efficiency.

Before the full deployment, the Ministry’s team met with central management, Sub-BMC managers, and unit heads to plan implementation in key areas. Training sessions have already started for staff in selected departments.

The introduction of GHIMS at the Tamale Teaching Hospital is part of the Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh’s wider push to strengthen healthcare delivery through digital transformation.
The system aims to improve data accuracy, enhance coordination among health facilities, and ensure smoother care for patients across the country.
