Global economy’s meltdown affecting Ghana, not gov’t incompetence – Eric Amoako Twum

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, Eric Amoako Twum, has mounted a strong defense of the government’s economic management, attributing Ghana’s economic woes to global factors.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Twum cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war as significant contributors to Ghana’s economic downturn.

“We’ve come from a backdrop of an economy that was part of a global economy facing global supply chain expedients. Covid-19 negatively impacted Ghana and every country,” Twum emphasized.

He noted that the global economy was on the brink of recession in the last two years, affecting several countries. However, Twum highlighted government efforts to mitigate the effects, including, ongoing payment of formal sector workers. Agenda 111 projects and the flagship free SHS program.

“All these are happening amidst challenges, and government acknowledges economic difficulties,” Twum added.

Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam echoed Twum’s sentiments, attributing economic challenges to external factors rather than poor governance.
