GMTF Funds training for 100 nurses and 100 pharmacists

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has signed strategic agreements and presented cheques to support the training of 100 pharmacists, 100 nurses and a new cadre of specialist doctors as part of a nationwide effort to strengthen healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The initiative forms part of the Trust Fund’s drive to support specialist training for healthcare professionals and improve access to quality healthcare across the country, especially in the treatment of chronic diseases.

The agreements were signed during a landmark engagement led by the Administrator of the Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku.

The partnerships involve the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ghana College of Pharmacists and Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

Under the initiative, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund aims to ensure that every region in the country has at least three specialist doctors, nurses and pharmacists within the next three years.

Officials say the programme is designed to strengthen the country’s health workforce by investing in the training and development of critical healthcare professionals.

The Fund says the move marks a major step towards expanding access to specialised healthcare and building a stronger health system capable of responding to the growing burden of chronic illnesses in Ghana.
