GNACOPS confirms controversial education reforms circulating on social media

The National Executive Director of Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah says the controversial Ghana Education Service and National Council for Curriculum Assessment (NaCCA) new education curriculum circulating on social media are factual documents.

Mr. Gyentuah said the new education reform is in the implementation process.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has described as inaccurate and unapproved an alleged Ghana Education Service and National Council for Curriculum Assessment new education reforms circulating on social media.

Speaking on Nsem Asisi on Original TV, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Yaw Opoku Mensah indicated that his outfit has no such plans to replace WASSCE with a university entrance examination as indicated by the new education reforms.

He also denied the claim that final-year Senior High School students who passed out with flying colours will be awarded a diploma certificate instead of the usual WASSCE certificate.

The Education Ministry’s clarification comes after the purported new education reforms document said “Kindergarten, primary school, JHS, and SHS shall be described as Basic schools. JHS1,2, 3, and SHS1 shall now be referred to as BS7 to 10 respectively. Thus, SHS1 will become a basic 10.”

It also stated “all students in JHS1-SHS1 shall run a Common Core Programme called CCP which comprises subjects namely Mathematics, and Science. RME (stand-alone subjects), Physical and Health Education (Not examinable) Career Technology, Social Studies, Computing, and Creative Art and Design.”

“A new examination called National Standard Assessment Test (NSAT) shall be conducted at Primary 2,4,6 and JHS2. BECE shall be replaced by placement exams at JHS3 to enroll students into SHS1,” the document added.

“Students in SHS1 shall continue to run the Common Core Programme for one year, thus students in SHS1 shall not select Science, Business or Arts programmes. At the end of SHS1, Students shall write a Common Core Exam into SHS 2.

However, the National Executive Director of Ghana National Council of Private Schools, Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah on the same program said most of the reforms circulating on social media such as the National Standardize Test for basic 2 and basic 4 and other reforms are currently being implemented in the various schools across the country.
