GNFS Orders Recruits, Cadets To Pay Feeding Fees Due To Financial Constraints

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued an official directive for its recruits, cadets, and some serving officers to settle outstanding feeding fees that were accumulated during their training.

This move comes as the service faces ongoing financial challenges, prompting the GNFS to take action to ensure that all debts related to training expenses are cleared by the end of the year.

According to a circular dated October 9, 2025, and signed by DCFO Mark Brako-Appiah Jnr, the fees were introduced as a measure to offset the feeding costs during the training period. Due to ongoing financial constraints, personnel undergoing training were required to contribute towards their feeding expenses.

The circular highlights the financial strain faced by the Ghana National Fire Service, which has struggled to cover the full cost of recruits’ and officers’ feeding during their training. As a result, the service requested recruits, cadets, and officers to pay a portion of these costs. In light of these ongoing challenges, the GNFS has now instructed those affected to clear their arrears in order to maintain operational integrity and ensure sustainability of future training programs.

The circular details two options for payment:

Bank Deductions: For officers and recruits whose arrears are deducted directly from their bank accounts.

Direct Payments: Personnel can also make cash payments directly at the Salaries Office of GNFS Headquarters or into the GNFS account at the Bank of Ghana.

All recruits and officers are required to settle their outstanding feeding fees by December 31, 2025. This deadline is non-negotiable, and the GNFS is emphasizing the importance of adhering to this timeline to ensure smooth operations within the service.
