The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has averted what could have been a major power outage after firefighters swiftly brought an electrical fire under control at Tetegu SDA in the Greater Accra Region.
Firefighters from the Weija Fire Station responded to a distress call in the early hours of Tuesday, July 28, and successfully extinguished a fire involving an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) utility pole and electrical cables.
The Service said the quick response prevented the flames from spreading to a nearby ECG transformer, a development that could have caused a significant power disruption in the area.
“Firefighters prevented a major power disruption after swiftly extinguishing an electrical fire involving an ECG pole and cables at Tetegu SDA,” GNFS wrote in part on Facebook.
It added that the crew “contained the blaze before it could spread to a nearby ECG transformer, limiting the damage to the pole and electrical cables.
No injuries were recorded in the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
