The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) has appealed to Ghanaians, particularly students, to offer prayers for the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and other government officials following a road accident on February 12, 2026.
In a press release dated February 13, 2026, GNUTS expressed both concern and relief over the incident, which also involved the Deputy Minister for Communication and Digital Technology.
“The Ghana National Union of Technical Students (GNUTS) expresses concern and relief over the road accident involving Minister of Education Honorable Haruna Iddrisu and other officials,” the statement said.
The student body commended emergency responders for their swift intervention, praising the Ghana Ambulance Service for what it described as a prompt response to the incident.
“We commend the Ghana Ambulance Service for the prompt response to the incident,” GNUTS stated.
According to the release, the minister and his team were on official duty in the Upper West Region, en route to anniversary celebrations at Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education, when the accident occurred.
“The Minister’s intentions were pure towards the progress of education in the upper west region,” the statement noted, adding that they were travelling to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of the two colleges.
GNUTS further urged students and the general public to remember the affected officials in their prayers.
“We call on Ghanaian students to extend prayer to the honorable ministers of state and other officials who were involve in the accident,” it said.
Beyond the appeal for prayers, the union also used the occasion to highlight concerns about the state of the country’s road infrastructure. It called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to improve the quality of inter-regional roads.
“We therefore call on the Ministry of Roads and Highways to ensure that all inter regional roads should be asphalt and properly constructed to avoid future incursions,” GNUTS stressed.
The union further expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
“Our thought and prayer are with them and their families, we remain hopeful for their swift return to good health and continue their service to our beloved nation Ghana,” the statement added.
