Gold Coast customers hit streets today over locked-up funds

Aggrieved customers of the defunct Gold Coast Fund Management are taking to the streets in Accra today to demand the payment of their outstanding locked-up investments.

The customers are expected to gather at the forecourt of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at Osu before proceeding to the Jubilee House to petition President John Dramani Mahama over the continued delay in settling their claims.

The demonstration follows the omission of a provision for the full payment of their outstanding claims from the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The affected investors had called on the government, ahead of the budget review, to make adequate financial provision to settle all outstanding amounts owed them.

According to the customers, the prolonged wait for their funds has caused significant financial difficulties for many investors, some of whom have been seeking repayment for several years.

Mr Charles Nyame, Convener of the Aggrieved Customers of Gold Coast Fund Management, has called on all affected customers to join today’s action to press for the release of their funds.

The group has also extended an invitation to customers of other financial institutions affected by the financial sector clean-up to participate in the demonstration.

The organisers have indicated that the protest will be peaceful, with buses arranged to convey participants from Osu to the Jubilee House.

Gold Coast Fund Management, subsequently renamed Blackshield Fund Management, was among the financial institutions whose licences were revoked as part of the financial sector clean-up.

While the government has since made payments to customers of some collapsed financial institutions under the claims settlement process, the Gold Coast customers say significant amounts remain outstanding.

Today’s protest is therefore aimed at renewing pressure on the government to provide a clear timeline for the payment of the remaining funds and bring an end to the prolonged wait by affected investors.
