Mining giant Gold Fields has announced a major sponsorship agreement valued at USD 5 million over a two-year period to support football development in Ghana.
The landmark partnership was unveiled on Friday at the company’s headquarters in Accra and will provide financial backing for the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Challenge, as well as the Ghana Women’s Premier League.
The sponsorship is expected to offer both financial and logistical support aimed at strengthening Ghana’s national teams and accelerating the growth of women’s football in the country.
The unveiling ceremony attracted officials from the Ghana Football Association, executives of Gold Fields, government representatives, and key stakeholders within the football community.
The agreement comes at an important time for Ghana football, with the Black Stars intensifying preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, while the Black Queens continue their build-up towards the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Many stakeholders have also welcomed the inclusion of the Black Challenge in the sponsorship package, describing it as a significant step towards promoting inclusivity and supporting para sports in Ghana.
The partnership is also expected to enhance the visibility and development of the Ghana Women’s Premier League as women’s football continues to experience rapid growth nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, officials described the agreement as one of the biggest corporate investments in Ghana football in recent years and expressed confidence that the support would positively influence the performance and development of the teams and competitions covered under the deal.
The partnership further highlights the growing role of corporate institutions in sports development, with hopes that more companies will invest in football and other sporting disciplines across the country.
