GoldBod has partnered with the Ghana Armed Forces and the Forestry Commission to begin a national land reclamation project, with the first phase focused on restoring 50 hectares of degraded land in the Tano Nimiri Forest Reserve.
The initiative aims to rehabilitate areas affected by environmental degradation and strengthen efforts to protect Ghana’s forest resources.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to environmental sustainability through its Environmental, Social and Governance mandate and Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
He said the project forms part of broader efforts to restore damaged landscapes while promoting responsible natural resource management.
Deputy Defence Minister, Ernest Brogya Genfi stressed the importance of collaboration in addressing environmental challenges, noting that protecting forests is critical to safeguarding the country’s natural heritage for future generations.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Dr Hugh Brown, also underscored the need to reclaim degraded lands and preserve forest ecosystems, describing the initiative as a significant step towards environmental restoration.
The project marks the beginning of a wider national effort to restore degraded lands across the country through partnerships between state institutions and key stakeholders.
