Bibiani GoldStars took a big step toward lifting the GHALCA Top 4 trophy after edging Heart of Lions 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.
The Miners showed nerves of steel in the shootout in the competition. The win moves them to seven points and keeps them in pole position for the pre-season title.
Heart of Lions made the stronger start, bossing possession and forcing GoldStars to defend deep. Their dominance paid off in the 37th minute when Ali Fawzi opened the scoring for the Kpando side.
GoldStars responded after the break, creating more chances and pushing for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off late in the game as striker Sampson Eduku struck to level the score and send the contest to penalties.
In the shootout, GoldStars converted four spot-kicks while Lions missed twice, sealing victory for the Miners.
