Member of Parliament for Gomoa East Constituency, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, has debunked allegations that he has utilized his share of the common fund for personal gains.
Contrary, he says, the common fund has been effectively utilized to the benefit of constituents as compared to the situation under his predecessor, who is contesting him in the upcoming elections.
The former Gomoa East MP, who is running for office again on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party, Kojo Asemanyi, is said to have accused the incumbent MP, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, of utilizing his share of the MPs’ common fund for this year, amounting to GHC 500,000 for his personal gains, while starving the area of development.
But the incumbent Gomoa East MP, who doubles as the NDC parliamentary candidate, Desmond Paitoo, describes the allegation as baseless and wants constituents not to offer any credence to it.
Speaking to Metro News, the De-Graft Paitoo said he is yet to receive his share of the common fund for this year and funds received in previous years have been utilized on a number of developmental projects in communities within the constituency.
Among the projects he’s embarked on, according to him, include a number of school facilities, health infrastructure, sanitation facilities, provision of cement to support community self help projects as well as scholarship for a number of secondary and tertiary students who are residents of the constituency.
He is strongly convinced that the common fund under his tenure has been judiciously applied compared to that of his predecessor, who according to the MP, only utilized GHC 57,000, and out of the amount he received for the acquisition of an ambulance.
According to him, the allegations leveled against him by his predecessor are politically-motivated for the purpose of the upcoming elections, which he believes he will win.
Meanwhile, the Gomoa East M, De-Graft Paitoo, is accusing his predecessor of resorting to preaching ‘skirt and blouse’ to electorates since he believes his presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia has no chance of winning the presidential elections.
He says his contender’s failure to attend the NPP’s manifesto launch is a testament of his mistrust in Bawumia and clearly indicating why he led Kennedy Agyepong’s campaign as the central regional coordinator ahead of the NPP’s presidential primary and therefore calls on electorates in the Gomoa East to reject him on December 7.
