The government has released GH¢1.677 billion to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in 2026, representing 85% of the ministry’s approved budget for goods and services and capital expenditure, Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem has announced.
Speaking at the launch of Ghana’s National Pact for Agricultural Transformation, Food Security and Employment, known as the AgriConnect Compact, on Wednesday, Mr Ampem said the funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural sector and supporting food security, job creation and economic growth.
The announcement comes amid concerns that the Ministry of Finance has not provided sufficient funding to some key ministries and state institutions.
Mr Ampem said the release of funds reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to agricultural transformation and the implementation of flagship programmes aimed at strengthening the sector.
He said the government’s vision extends beyond increasing agricultural production to transforming the entire value chain through improved productivity, enhanced food security and expanded employment opportunities.
According to him, significant resources have already been made available to support critical interventions across the agricultural sector.
Mr Ampem added that the investments are intended to accelerate the government’s broader agenda of modernising agriculture and positioning the sector as a major driver of national development.
The AgriConnect Compact is expected to serve as a framework for advancing agricultural transformation, improving food systems and creating employment opportunities across the country.
