The government has announced a reduction in Ghana’s cocoa producer price, setting the new rate at GH¢41,392 per tonne for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season. The adjustment, which takes effect from Thursday, February 12, 2026, lowers the price from the previous GH¢51,660 per tonne.
The revised rate translates to GH¢2,587 per bag, according to the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), which approved the new pricing structure. Authorities say the decision is part of broader efforts to stabilise Ghana’s cocoa sector amid changing global market conditions.
Addressing journalists in Accra, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson explained that the adjustment was informed by prevailing trends on the international cocoa market. He noted that global price fluctuations have made it necessary to realign domestic producer prices with current market realities.
Dr. Forson said the move is intended to restore confidence across the cocoa value chain while ensuring that the industry remains financially sustainable. He stressed that maintaining stability in the sector is critical, given cocoa’s strategic role in Ghana’s economy.
According to the Minister, the new producer price is also expected to inject immediate liquidity into the cocoa industry. He indicated that the revision would help fast-track payments to farmers who have experienced delays in recent months and ease financial pressures at the farm level.
The government maintains that the price adjustment forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry. “Effective today, Thursday, 12th February 2026, the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025–2026 crop season will now be GH¢41,392 per tonne and GH¢2,587 per bag,” Dr. Forson stated.
