This is to commemorate New Year Day which falls on a weekend this year and is a statutory holiday,
The Interior Ministry made the announcement in a press statement on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, via its website.
The declaration is in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), included Monday, January 3.
“The general public is hereby notified that Saturday, 1st January, 2022 marks New Year’s Day which is a Statutory Public Holiday,” part of the statement said.
“However, in view of the fact that 1st January, 2022 falls on a Saturday, His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, has by Executive Instrument (E.I), in accordance with Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act, (Act 601) declared Monday, 3rd January, 2022 as an additional Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
