Chiefs, drivers, and residents of Anomabo-Nsanfo in the Mfantseman Consistency of Central Region have given the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for the area a two-week ultimatum to fix their road.
Anomabo-Nsanfo is a farming community on the branch road from the Anomabo-Briwa highway.
The stretch in the Mfantseman Constituency is in a deplorable state making movement very difficult for commuters.
The commuters have complained bitterly about the consequences of the bad road on their farming and how drivers are taking advantage of the issue to charge them more transport fees.
On the other hand, the drivers say they frequent mechanics for car maintenance due to potholes on the road.
Both the drivers and residents are threatening to demonstrate against authorities in the region over the poor nature of their roads
According to the stranded inhabitants, the deteriorating state of their road is caused by some heavy trucks owned by mining companies that frequently ply the road.
Some drivers who spoke to Metro TV said the road, primarily within Nsanfo township, becomes impassable during the rainy season and generates excessive dust in the dry season. They are, therefore, giving the authorities two weeks to fix their road or they will get the road blocked.
Meanwhile, the Assemblyman for the area, Moses Kow Asare, the chiefs and drivers of the area find this situation unacceptable, especially considering the activities of the mining company and despite the government’s promise to fix the road the situation keeps getting worse.
Apart from that, various roads within Mfantseman communities and its surrounding areas are in a deplorable condition. The contractor responsible for working on these road projects has abandoned work exacerbating the deterioration.
Nana Arko, Nkosohene of Nsanfo intimated that a lot of official effort has been made through the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency, Madam Ophelia Mensah Hayford who constantly uses the road for her political gains, several meetings have been held with the MCE Ike Lord Ennu but all attempts proven futile.
He threatened that the dilapidated state of the road would cost the MP her parliamentary seat.
